Delivering change
The Derby Cityscape Masterplan is based around a 15 year delivery schedule which will bring a variety of uses into the city centre and is expected to attract around £2 billion investment into the city. Bringing a series of public and private devlopment projects into the central area is an important step in the delivery process to secure significant and lasting benefits to Derby.
Residential
Around 5000 new homes, with a mix of city living apartments and family homes, are proposed within the Masterplan.
Commercial Office
In excess of 1.4 million sq ft of key sites have been identified within the city supported by improving infrastructure, offering excellent links by road, rail and air.
Retail
The UK's largest retail led development - Westfield Derby - was opened in October 2007 bringing more than 150 new stores to the city centre. Improvements are also being made to support the niche retail sector in the Cathedral Quarter and the Lanes. Other retail opportunities continue to be brought forward by new developments.
Cultural, leisure and tourism
Major opportunities for 4 and 5 star hotels and leisure developments. Current developments include QUAD - Derby's new visual arts and media centre - Finesse Hotels boutique hotel on St Mary's Gate and Riverlights which will include a casino and 2 hotels.
Public Spaces
Investment in improving public open spaces within Derby's city centre include key sites such as the area surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cathedral Green, the historic market place, the Spot and reinforcing the city's link with the River Derwent.
