Derby Cityscape

A COMPUTER-GENERATED 3D model of Derby city centre will be launched at the East Midlands Property and Business Show.

The model was jointly commissioned by Derby Cityscape and Derby City Council and will go on show to the region's property and investment professionals at East Midlands Conference Centre, in Nottingham, on November 4.

The University of Derby has helped to create the model, which provides an on-screen journey through developments that have either been completed, are under way or have been proposed as part of Derby Cityscape's master plan to attract £2bn of investment into the city centre.

The virtual model will take visitors on a bird's eye trip through the city, highlighting landmark schemes.

Projects that can be seen in 3D detail include the improvements to Cathedral Green and its new footbridge, due to open this autumn; Wilson Bowden's mixed redevelopment of the grade II-listed magistrates court in Full Street; the roof gardens, apartments and office space at Sadler Square in Bold Lane and the Quad and Jurys Inn hotel in King Street.

Councillor Hilary Jones, leader of Derby City Council, said there was a great deal of exciting development happening in Derby.

"This innovative way of demonstrating the development that's already taken place provides an effective illustration of the transformation to date and will, I believe, inspire future developers to consider investing in our city."

Derby Cityscape chief executive John Cadwallader said: "There is a great deal happening in Derby city centre and it is wonderful that potential investors and developers now have the chance to see the masterplan in this hi-tech way so that they can truly appreciate the area's full potential.

"The East Midlands Property and Business Investment Show is always well supported by key players in the industry and the three-dimensional model will generate a great deal of interest as it is something different for them to experience and should create a real buzz around the Derby Cityscape stand."

It is expected that more than 1,000 people from the property industry will be at the East Midlands Property and Business Investment Show.
