PLANS UNVEILED FOR MAJOR CITY
OFFICE SCHEME
Plans to create a £12 million prestige landmark office building in Derby have been submitted to the City Council.
Developers, Chesterfield-based Bolsterstone plc, have put forward an ambitious scheme which would see the redevelopment of the site of the former Sixt Kenning Car Hire centre on Cathedral Road in the city.
The plans propose an impressive, five storey, high-specification building which would offer 50,000 sq ft of office space, with the flexibility to be able to accommodate a single occupier or a series of smaller individual high-quality suites from 2,500 sq ft upwards.
The building’s U-shaped design would house a central feature entrance and reception area incorporating eye-catching fully glazed, exterior finishes
Bolsterstone’s Development Director, Duncan Grant explained: “Our proposals are designed to provide Derby with a major, Grade A office scheme – something which hasn’t been built in the city centre for the last ten to fifteen years.
“Derby is certainly on a growth path and the recent developments in terms of the city’s retail offer are putting the area firmly on the regional and national map. We believe that the provision of new prime office accommodation will attract further blue chip investment into the heart of the city.”
He added: “The aim is to create a statement building which has a presence of its own. Pride Park has obviously become a successful commercial location but the time is right to encourage businesses back into the city centre where staff can make the most of the outstanding retail facilities and the rapidly improving public realm.
“It is the first time our company has been involved in a development in Derby and we are excited by the prospects of adding to the city’s commercial offer.
“Our proposals are designed to provide a scheme which not only brings back into use a site which is currently unused but which also very clearly meets a market need.”
Mr Grant indicated that he was hoping for a positive planning decision in January with construction commencing next spring and occupation by the early part of 2009.
