They have organised industry days and work placements and given careers advice to pupils.
Miller Homes East Midlands, for example, joined with pupils from Lees Brook Community Sports College to design a new environment-friendly home.
And Derby Cityscape came up with a challenge for West Park Community School pupils when it asked them to design a new building that would make an instant impression when rail travellers arrived in the city.
The businesses attended a celebration event at Derby Conference Centre, in London Road, organised by the Derbyshire Education Business Partnership.
It was an opportunity to thank businesses for helping with industry days, work placements and careers advice.
John O'Callaghan, partnership manager, said: "Employers are invaluable role models, and can help bring a real-life relevance to what people are learning in school."
Andrew Flack, Derby City Council director for children and young people, attended the event. He said: "It is really encouraging to see so many businesses investing their time and expertise to support young people."
