PUTTING A NAME TO THE PLACE
Developer blueprint and urban regeneration company Derby Cityscape have launched a competition to name one of the most unique developments happening in the city. Anyone can get involved with a chance of winning £250 worth of book tokens.
The location of the development is in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter on the site of the former Princes Supermarket on Bold Lane. The design is a prominent step in creating a high quality development sympathetic to the surrounding buildings and will include a mix of apartments, roof gardens, shops and offices.
The development will also incorporate a square linked to public open spaces that will appreciate the city’s heritage, embrace its future and provide something different.
With all this in mind blueprint and Derby Cityscape want people from Derby and the region to get involved in naming the scheme and giving it an identity that will reflect its unique design and support Derby’s role as a city of character, history and regional importance . You can either choose one of the names below or suggest one of your own.
What are the suggestions?
1. St George’s Square
2. Cathedral Gate
3. Cathedral Place

The developer are working closely with prestigious and innovative London based architects Ash Sakula who are creating an original neighbourhood in the shadow of Derby Cathedral.
Following the announcement of the new name in April a new logo will be revealed and a dedicated web site will show the details of the site including the progress when the building starts.
John Cadwallader Chief Executive Derby Cityscape explains; “This is a really exciting development for Derby and an important catalyst to enhancing the city’s historic Cathedral Quarter. We are really looking forward to hearing the suggestions and getting involved in something that will be left for future generations to enjoy.”
Peter Connolly Development Director of blueprint added; “The design is very sympathetic to the location and the space developed will provide a unique environment for residents and visitors to the city. It is important that the people of Derby choose a name that they feel best reflects their city’s heritage and future.”
