Derby Cityscape

COMPLETION OF NEW SCHEME
AT CARRINGTON STREET

The partner agencies and Riverside Housing, Divisional Director, Chris Flynn will be present when The Mayor of the City of Derby, Councillor Pauline Latham visits the site to see the newly refurbished Churnet House and the show apartment at Rutland House.  The scheme has already received interest having recently been nominated for a Housing Excellence Award 2008 for the Best New Affordable Housing Scheme of the Year.

The £4.8 million project has delivered 53 new homes for rent, sale and shared ownership and is the result of a partnership between Riverside Housing, Derby City Council, The Housing Corporation and developer Kingswater Lindum.  Work started on site in March 2007 by main contractor Lindum Construction.

The land was acquired by Kingswater Lindum who then approached Riverside Housing to develop the site and provide affordable housing opportunities in the area.

The refurbished Churnet House has 17 mezzanine apartments for rent through Riverside Housing, a majority of which have now been occupied.  In the new five storey apartment building - Rutland House, there are 26 apartments available for sale on the shared ownership scheme (part buy, part rent) through Riverside Housing of which 25% have already been reserved off plan. The remaining 10 units are available for outright sale via Kingswater Lindum.

The work at Carrington Street is part of the city’s £2 billion regeneration programme being pioneered by urban regeneration company Derby Cityscape.  John Cadwallader, Chief Executive of Derby Cityscape said: “Since the launch of the Masterplan just 3 years ago, the regeneration in Derby has seen some major changes.

“The scheme at Carrington Street is in such a prominent location close to the city centre and major transport links.  This high quality development will help to meet the increasing demand of well designed city centre housing and the new residential community will bring life and vitality to this part of the city.”

Riverside Housing Divisional Director, Chris Flynn said:  “The show apartment at Rutland House enables us to demonstrate the high standards and excellent value for money available here at Carrington Street.

“We are able to offer buyers stylish, yet affordable living, close to the city centre and only a few minutes walk away from Derby Train Station and the Westfield Derby Shopping Centre.

“The Carrington Street scheme is one of three developments which Riverside Housing is currently working on with Derby City Council to bring more affordable housing opportunities in the Derby area.

“With current market conditions looking less favourable and mortgage lenders now asking for deposits up to 10%, shared ownership is an affordable option for first time buyers to get that all important foot onto the property ladder.”
