INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY EVENT OFFERS CITY A CHANCE TO SHINE
13 February 2008
Business leaders from Derbyshire will be singing the city's praises at an international event aimed at attracting millions of pounds from global investors.
The world property show, MIPIM (Marche International des Professionnels d'Immobilier), takes place in Cannes, France, next month.
They will be showcasing opportunities for investment in Derby at the show, which takes place in the Palais des Festivals from Tuesday, March 11, to Friday, March 14.
With a reputation as the world's top real-estate summit, MIPIM brings together some of the most influential decision-makers in the market, offering them access to the largest available showcase of development projects.
Partners from the city, including urban regeneration company Derby Cityscape and Marketing Derby, a public/private sector organisation set up to promote the city as a place to live, work and invest, will be strengthening the city's case by launching two reports.
The first is a hotel prospectus, which will outline existing accommodation and the number of hotels which are set to be built in the city over the next few years.
The other will be the Derby Market Activity Report, which will highlight the city's economic diversity and strength, with data on supply, demand, developments and employment growth trends.
Both reports have been funded by Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership.
According to John Cadwallader, chief executive of Derby Cityscape, he and his colleagues will be pushing the potential of the River Derwent and sites next to the river as places to invest.
Mr Cadwallader said: "This year, we plan to showcase the market strength and the potential in the city for development and visually promote a major unique selling point of the city - the River Derwent."
During MIPIM, Derbyshire's representatives will also be staging two breakfast events. Both will feature talks by key speakers focusing on development and investment in both Derby city centre and the region.
One of the events will go under the Derby Embassy banner. The embassy was launched by Marketing Derby at the Houses of Parliament just over a year ago, with the aim of providing a foothold in London for local companies and organisations.
Marketing Derby director John Forkin said: "MIPIM is a hugely important date in the property industry's calendar."
As well as Marketing Derby and Derby Cityscape, representatives from some of the region's leading developers will be among Derbyshire's delegation including Blueprint, Cedar House, Henry Boot, Innes England, Morgan Tucker and Bolsterstone.
