Derby Cityscape

Ricardo Deer the winner receives his award from Sharon Stevens-Cash

Derby City Centre is experiencing some of the biggest changes it has ever seen, and Derby Cityscape are delighted to engage with local young people and see what it is that they enjoy about our changing city.

We are very pleased to see the effort that has been put in by students  from the Duffield Road Centre and would really like to thank each one for taking part – some of them have a real artistic eye!!

It was a genuinely difficult choice to pick a winner and after much debate the following pieces of art were chosen;

1st place – Ricardo Deer
Initially the striking thing about this is that Ricardo had gone out of his way to find some well chosen words about the history of the city. Ricardo also captured the ‘new’ Derby through using images of the Westfield Derby centre. This poster captures a passion that he obviously felt for the project.

2nd place – Amber Lewis
It seems Amber has a natural eye for architecture and even though has only used two images she has exposed them in such a way that it appears there were more buildings used in the focus. A very well composed image and well worthy of a place on any wall!

3rd place – Abbas Hussain
Abbas has a very artistic talent and he seems to have a very subtle approach. This image is incredibly striking and would stand out in any good collection of modern art. The use of open green space with a city focus with the use of a very calming colour is really smart.

We very much look forward to seeing some of these talents being used in the students future careers.
