REPRESENTATIVES from Derby will aim to impress investors, developers and other experts at the world's biggest property summit next month.

Heavyweight speakers have been lined up to travel to Cannes, in the south of France, to promote the city at the Marche International des Professionals de l'Immobilier (MIPIM).

The three-day MIPIM event is to property professionals what the Cannes Film Festival is to the movie industry.

Those selling the city at MIPIM will be Derby City Council chief executive Adam Wilkinson, director of Marketing Derby John Forkin, chairman of Derby Cityscape Peter Richardson and Bert Pijls, UK head of Citibank, owner of Pride Park-based internet bank Egg.

Marketing Derby has commissioned a short film about the city's office developments to be screened at the event.

Produced by Derby firm Five Lamps Films, it will feature three-dimensional graphics showing how Derby's office developments will look once completed.

Mr Forkin said: "We hope to raise the profile of Derby among office end-users and those people who advise them on relocation.

"Having finished the first phase of the Masterplan, our message to investors and agents will be that the city is now prepared for phase two.

"That's why the film we will be screening is called Ready to Go."

The presentation, organised by Marketing Derby, will take place on Wednesday, March 17, and hopes to attract about 100 of the world's most influential real estate agents to hear what the city has to offer relocating businesses and investors.

The intention is to influence the larger national property agents who deal with large-scale office relocations and make sure that Derby is on their list when they talk to clients.

Attracting significant civil service or private sector relocation would mean the creation of more jobs and a boost to the city's economy.

According to Marketing Derby, Lowbridge, the developer behind the £20m Friar Gate Square office development first heard about the city at MIPIM.

After last year's event, key investment representatives were impressed enough by Derby's MIPIM showing to visit the city for the Derby Property and Investment Show.

This year the event will also by used by Marketing Derby to promote the new Quality City Quality Opportunity website.

Property developer Peter Gadsby will also be at the show.

He said: "It is a good opportunity to reinforce our capability to deliver schemes when all the key property players are under the same roof.

"We spend a lot of time dashing round between venues, starting with breakfast briefings at 7.30am and finishing meetings at midnight, so those three days are very concentrated.

"This year it will be more focused because of the recession and people's expectations have changed.

"It will be harder to make progress."
