Derby Cityscape

Following a public competition to find a name for blueprint’s exciting development in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter has been revealed today as ‘Sadler Square’

The competition was launched by Derby Cityscape and blueprint in March this year and five winners have each won £250 worth of book tokens having voted for their choice from a suggested list of names.

Sadler Square is a £16 million mixed use development designed by innovative London-based architects Ash Sakula who are creating an original neighbourhood in the shadow of Derby Cathedral.  It will be a high quality development sympathetic to the surrounding buildings and will include a mix of apartments, roof gardens, shops and café’s, offices and a square linked to public open spaces that will appreciate the city’s heritage, embrace its future and provide something different.

Following the announcement of the new name a new logo will now be revealed and a dedicated web site will show the details of the site including the progress when the building starts.

John Cadwallader Chief Executive of Derby Cityscape added; “The design is very sympathetic to the location and the space developed will provide a unique environment for residents and visitors to the city. It am delighted that local people have been involved in choosing the name that they feel best reflects their city’s heritage and future.”

Peter Connolly Development Director of blueprint commented; “This competition has given us a chance to work closely with the people of Derby and find out what they think of the designs. We have had a great response from all age groups and some really interesting information about the history of the site. The name that has been chosen suits the sentiments of the public and reflects the identity that already exist in the area.”

Nick Hosking, Director of Derby based property specialists Innes England who are marketing the scheme added; “We have been hugely encouraged by the positive feedback we have had from the public to both the design and nature of the scheme. This clearly demonstrates that the regeneration of this part of the Cathedral Quarter is an important step forward and has already been supported by early interest from businesses wanting to move into the area.”
