STUDENTS from a Derby school will be helping to design a new railway station building for the city on Tuesday.

The workshop featuring 175 Spondon West Park Community School pupils is aimed at helping them understand the process of city centre regeneration.

The pupils, aged 13 and 14, will consider the design, cost and practicality of the building and then build a model to showcase their ideas.

Derby Cityscape will reward the winners and runners-up with book tokens.

John Cadwallader, Derby Cityscape chief executive, said: “It will be extremely interesting to see what the students have in mind for the station building.”

An 18-month £18m revamp of Derby's railway station is taking place to install lifts and rebuild platform canopies.
