Students from a Derby secondary school have been putting their creative skills to use by designing their perfect cafe.

The pupils, aged 13 and 14, have been working alongside members of the project team from Derby Cityscape and Derby City Council in turning an imaginary struggling caf?? into a thriving business.

The project team will help them envisage their new business around what they think would appeal to communities from the city.

One of the suggested areas where they could locate the cafe is the Cathedral Green, which is going through its own transformation.

John Cadwallader, of Derby Cityscape, said: "We have already worked very successfully with pupils from West Park on what features they would like to see in the North Riverside area and were delighted when asked by the school to work with them on another creative project."

Landscaping work is well under way on the £3.8m improvement scheme at Cathedral Green, which will include riverbank planting to encourage wildlife, an amphitheatre seating area, public art and a swing-design footbridge.

The improvement project is part of Derby Cityscape's strategy for the city.

Funding for the £3.8m project comes from Derby City Council, the Government and Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership.
