CHANGING CITY IN FOCUS FROM TOP OF THE TOWER
Date : 06.05.08

Derby's changing skyline was revealed this weekend when the Cathedral tower opened to visitors.

Pictures taken from the top of the tower show changes taking place within the city's new £3.8m Cathedral Green development, as a paved area and two garden areas with trees begin to take shape.

The completed scheme, the brainchild of the city council and urban regeneration company Derby Cityscape, will create a pedestrianised, open-air "relaxation area", together with a bridge linking the site with Stuart Street across the River Derwent.

The view from the top of the tower also provided a good vantage point of the Guildhall - which has been wrapped behind scaffolding and plastic sheeting for cleaning and repair work - the building work at Derby College and a view of Westfield shopping centre, which opened in October.

The Cathedral tower was open to visitors on Saturday, who were given the chance to climb its 189 steps and get these unrivalled views of the city.
