YOUNGSTERS CAN HAVE THEIR SAY

25 March 2008

A Youth forum is giving young people the chance to have their say on decisions affecting Derby.

The forum is made up of youngsters from Osmaston and Allenton and was set up to allow them to make a positive contribution to the local community.

Members of the forum were able to find out more about regeneration plans for the city centre when they met representatives from Derby Cityscape recently.

Other meetings being set up in the future include a session with local city councillors and carrying out work with the local neighbourhood forum.

There are also plans for forum members to enter the Race for Life in May to raise money for Cancer Research and to organise a family sports day this summer in aid of Scope.

Both charities have been picked by the young people as causes they wish to support this year.

The forum was formed by the youth organisation Enthusiasm Trust and Derby Community Safety Partnership,

Enthusiasm youth worker Joel Bilotta said: "The response from young people in setting up the Forum has been amazing.

"Young people are often labelled as the root of problems in a community but, when you listen to what they have to say, you recognise that they too want local communities to be safe and enjoyable places to live."
